Crescent Beach

Sea and sun bathing at Crescent Beach have been favorite pastimes for Orcas Islanders for generations. Just east of Eastsound, Crescent Beach is located in Ships Bay. Today the beach is part of a 130+ acre conservation area that provides a haven for local wildlife as well as beach access for human visitors. The majority of the plot was acquired by the San Juan County Land Bank in 1998.

Natural areas like this are important, not only for recreation but for the preservation of native species. The preserve features a walking trail from which the natural beauty of the environment and wildlife may be appreciated. Some of Orcas Island’s more rare species can be found at the preserve, including the black oystercatcher. The preserve is also a popular place to spot otters, deer, blue herons, Canada geese, and a variety of bird species.
